We frequently bring up FreeDarko around here because we are such big fans of what they do. With the breakup of the blog, we are forced to follow the individual contributors around like a mangy dog looking for scraps. Oooh, Jay Caspian Kang has something up over at Grantland! Crap, it’s about wrestling. Wait, is that a Bethlehem Shoals posting at The Classical? Score!
Another one of the last vestiges of FreeDarko is the obtusely named “FreeDarko Presents: The Disciples of Clyde NBA Podcast”, or FDPTDOCNBAP for short (which still isn’t that short). One of my favorite things about the podcast, and something I miss most about FreeDarko’s fall, is the unabashed Jewishness of the podcast. It’s not something I can always put my finger on (though one of the co-hosts being named Dan Filowitz certainly helps), but the Jewish/African-American connection through basketball has always fascinated me. Sometimes (like in this episode) the podcast focuses on the Knicks more than I care, but on the whole it is excellent, and I am happy it is still around. Check it out below.
