The acceleration due to gravity

Hi everyone. It’s been shamefully long since my last post. I’m either too busy and stressed, or having too much fun to bother with it. Anyway, since february, I’ve been working on completing the 36 required laboratory exercises with my 10th grade physics and integrated science students. its a ton of fun, but consumes way too much of my time.

This is a picture the school librarian snapped of me and my physics classes doing the classic “measure the acceleration due to gravity” experiment, by dropping an object off the 2nd floor of the school. they were all *shocked* to learn that a little paper ball and a big rock fell in exactly the same time.

Not much is new here, same old routine. I did end up having to teach a new class of 8th graders, the dreaded 8-5 class (the 5th best students out of 5 classes). It was definitely a shock at first, but I’m learning to deal with them and learning to like most of them as well. It definitely adds some excitement to my day when i have to physically break up a fight where a kid gets punched in the throat and has a metre stick broken over his head.

and yes, i spell words the funny british way now.

So, here’s to hoping something more interesting will be posted here shortly.

take care.
